Anxiety Therapy in San Jose + Throughout California

Your brain can find a lot to worry about.

You might know you're overthinking it. That doesn't necessarily make it easier to stop.

Anxiety can look like worry, panic, avoidance, overpreparing, checking, replaying conversations, or getting stuck on decisions.

Anxiety Isn't Always Obvious

You can be anxious and still look very functional.

A lot of anxiety happens in everything you're doing to prevent something from going wrong.

  • Replaying something you said long after the conversation ended.
  • Overpreparing because being caught off guard feels awful.
  • Researching after you probably already have enough information.
  • Checking because trusting that it's probably fine doesn't feel like enough.
  • Reassurance seeking when your own judgment suddenly feels unreliable.
  • Avoiding something because you don't want to deal with the anxiety around it.
What is driving the anxiety?

Figure Out What Is Happening

Anxiety is a starting point, not the whole explanation.

Before deciding what to do about anxiety, it helps to understand what's driving it.

Maybe it's uncertainty, panic, fear of making a mistake, a real problem that needs attention, or a pattern that keeps pulling you back into the same worry.

We look at what sets the anxiety off, what you do next, and whether that response is actually helping.
What keeps the anxiety going?

What Keeps It Going

Feeling better isn't always the same as getting unstuck.

Checking, avoiding, researching, overpreparing, or asking someone else can bring relief. That's exactly why those habits are easy to repeat.

The problem is when feeling okay starts requiring more and more from you.

Therapy can help separate what is genuinely useful from what is giving anxiety more control over what you do.

How anxiety treatment works

Anxiety Treatment

Not every anxious thought needs an argument.

And you don't have to turn your life into one giant exposure exercise.

What we do depends on what's keeping you stuck.

Sometimes that means approaching something you've been avoiding. Sometimes it's stepping out of rumination, leaving uncertainty unresolved, changing a behavior, or solving a problem that is actually solvable.

I use CBT, ACT, I-CBT, exposure-based work, and other behavioral approaches depending on what makes sense for the problem we're working on.

When more information stops helping

Information + Certainty

There is almost always one more thing you could check.

Another symptom. Another review. Another opinion. Another news update. Another read through the message you already checked three times.

Sometimes more information is useful. Sometimes you're trying to get a level of certainty the information can't give you.

Knowing when you have enough is part of the work.
What if it isn't just anxiety?

When It Isn't Just Anxiety

Similar problems can come from different places.

Anxiety can overlap with OCD, ADHD, autism, trauma, panic, depression, burnout, and relationship stress.

  • OCD
  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Trauma
  • Panic
  • Depression
  • Burnout
  • Relationship stress

That matters because something that looks like anxiety on the surface may need a different response once we understand what's underneath it.

What We're Working Toward

Anxiety doesn't have to disappear for your life to get bigger.

The goal isn't zero anxiety. It's having more room to decide what you do next.

  • Make a decision without reopening it over and over.
  • Know when you have enough information.
  • Notice when thinking has stopped being useful.
  • Do something important without waiting to feel completely ready.
  • Leave some uncertainty unresolved.
  • Trust yourself to handle what happens next.
